Saint Julius and the Turnips

A very well-known legend along the banks of Lake Orta (Lago d’Orta) says that Saint Julius, upon his arrival in the small city of Omegna, was received in a bad way by the residents of the city, who tried to send him away by showering him with turnips.

The Saint extended his cloak out over the lake and issued this curse: turnips will never again grow on this land!
Still today it is very difficult to grow turnips in Omegna.
