Sanctuary of Saint Mary
You can find this small, lovely church approximately 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) from Armeno, in the Luciago community, along the road that eventually reaches the summit of the Mottarone. It dates back to the sixteenth century.
According to tradition, the church was built by valley-dwellers and shepherds next to a rest area as a place for communal worship for long breaks during mountain treks. The fresco kept in the sanctuary dates back to the sixteenth centaury and has always been revered for its many miracles. It represents a Crucifixion, with the Virgin and Saint John. Oddly, the inside of the church includes two naves covered at different times.
Open in July and August and September 8, for the celebration of the Sanctuary.
Sunday from 8:00 A.M. - 8:00 P.M.
