Depending on the species (evergreen or deciduous), Magnolia may be a tree or a shrub. It is an outdoor plant with large, garish lone flowers that are lightly perfumed and vary in color from pink to white, yellowish to crimson. Its fruits are achenes with only one scarlet red, pink, or maroon seed; they are also commonly used as decorations.
The species M. Grandiflora is an evergreen, with large oval leaves, dark green and shiny on the top of the leaf and rust-colored on the bottom. The creamy white flowers are highly perfumed and spectacular.
