Azalea

The Azalea has dense, tightly gathered foliage and bright green, shiny, lance-shaped leaves, with lively-colored clusters of flowers in all shades of white, pink, red, magenta, and many two-colored varieties.

They can be distinguished from rhododendrons mainly by their significantly smaller size as well as by their leaves, which are not persistent. In Italy, rhododendrons and azaleas for ornamental use are grown mainly around the lakes by the foothills of the mountains.
